What is Habitat for Humanity?
While we here at Sid Dillon are dedicated to providing our family with great deals on the cars, trucks, and SUVs they need for home and business – something our customers tell us we do well – there are causes even more near and dear to our hearts, including Habitat for Humanity. One of the oldest, and largest organizations of its kind, Habitat is dedicated to bringing home to people around the world, and right here in our backyard.
The non-profit housing organization works with volunteers and would-be homeowners to help provide affordable homeownership to those who are willing to work hard to earn it. Habitat for Humanity receives support from citizen volunteers and businesses like Sid Dillon Automotive.
How Does the Habitat for Humanity Program Work?
Families in need of affordable, decent housing are invited to apply to the Habitat for Humanity housing program in their area. The applications are then presented to a committee who evaluate each applicant based on:
- Level of Need
- Willingness to Participate in the Program
- Ability to Repay the Mortgage on Their Habitat for Humanity Home
If selected for the program, families, along with other volunteers and Habitat for Humanity homeowners, spend hundreds of hours working on the house, completing necessary tasks to make the home ready for the family to move in.
How Does Habitat for Humanity Help Families?
Families can apply to Habitat for Humanity for housing assistance through a variety of programs, throughout the Lincoln and Columbus area:
- New Construction
- Existing Home Renovation
- Repair and Improvement of their Own Homes
- Disaster Response
Habitat also advocates for fair and affordable housing around the world and, outside the U.S. works with partner organizations to find innovative financing methods for deserving families.
