How to Program a Ford Key Fob

Replacing your car keys or getting an additional set? You’ll need to program your key fob to remotely lock and unlock your Ford vehicle. Fortunately, learning how to program a Ford key fob at home in Omaha is simple, and the process only takes a few minutes! Read the guide below from the Sid Dillon technicians for step-by-step directions on how to program remote lock/unlock functions and to register a key with MyKey® driving restrictions.


Ford Key Fob Programming Directions

You’ll need to complete some steps within a specific timeframe, so be sure to read these directions all the way through before you get started. Keep in mind that you can also call our Lincoln service center if you have any questions! Here’s how to program a Ford key fob to enable remote lock/unlock and remote start functions:

  1. Park your car in the driveway and securely shut all doors. Now open the driver’s-side door and press its UNLOCK button.
  2. Turn the key in the ignition from the OFF position to RUN (the third position). Do this eight times in succession within ten seconds, ending on RUN.
  3. If you hear your door locks cycle between lock and unlock, you’ve entered Ford key fob programming mode. If nothing happens, you most likely need to turn the key in the ignition faster.
  4. Within eight seconds of entering programming mode, press any button on the Ford key fob.
  5. If your car doors lock and unlock again, Ford key fob programming was successful and your new key fob is ready to use!
  6. Follow the same steps with any additional Ford key fobs you wish to program by pressing any button on the fob within eight seconds of accessing programming mode.
  7. When you’re finished programming, turn the ignition to the OFF position.

Ford Key Fob Programming: MyKey® Registration

Ford MyKey® allows you to set driving restrictions for learning drivers. When this key is inserted into the ignition, the system implements your pre-set driving restrictions. If your vehicle is equipped with MyKey®, Ford key fob programming will be slightly different:

  1. Start the car with the key you’d like to program with MyKey® driving mode restrictions.
  2. Access the main menu on your touchscreen interface and select Settings.
  3. Select MyKey® and then Create MyKey®.
  4. Press OK to register this key with MyKey®.
  5. To adjust MyKey®  restrictions, return to the MyKey® menu and select the features you wish to change.
  6. MyKey® settings are now programmed, and the vehicle will automatically implement your chosen restrictions on speed limit, stereo volume, and more when this key is placed in the ignition.
