How to Repair Deep Scratches on a Car
Nebraska workers from Lincoln to Omaha count on big trucks like the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Chevy Silverado 2500HD for major towing and hauling needs, but all that work leads to some body damage along the way. The auto body professionals at our Sid Dillon Body Shops are here to help you learn how to repair deep scratches on a car — and we’re happy to take care of your scratches if you need help.
How Can I Fix Deep Scratches on a Car?
A minor car scratch is fairly easy to fix with a little bit of buff and some elbow grease, but a deep scratch requires more attention than that. There are a few different things you can try to take care of a deep car scratch on your own, including options like:
- Use matching spray or touch-up paint to cover the scratch.
- Apply toothpaste to the scratch.
- Use an advanced scratch repair kit.
If none of these options work or you would rather rely on a professional before risking further cosmetic damage to your car, your local Sid Dillon Body Shop can take care of it for you.
How Much Does it Cost to Fix Deep Scratches on a Car?
The cost of deep scratches in your car can vary significantly depending on:
- Where the scratch is on the car
- How long the scratch is
- How deep the scratch is
- What kind of paint job you have on your car
In general, you’re probably looking at a bill of between $150 and $500 or more.
Does Car Insurance Cover Dents and Scratches?
It depends on the kind of insurance coverage you’ve purchased for your car. However, even if dents and scratches are covered on your car, it usually makes more financial sense to just pay for it yourself or do a DIY fix, because you’ll usually still end up having to cover the cost on your insurance deductible.

You get those scratch fixing kits in the market but I would say fix small scratches first I mean if you do the big ones directly you might end up messing up the job.
